Weekly Lightning News & Updates
9/7/25: First Day
Hola Swimmers and Swim Team Families,
Welcome back to another exciting swim season! We hope everyone had a fun, restful summer and is ready to dive back in. To all of our returning swimmers — we’re excited to see you again! To our new swimmers — welcome to the team, we’re thrilled to have you join our swim family.
The coaches are looking forward to getting started. It’s going to be a great season full of hard work, personal growth, and plenty of fun. We’ll train with purpose, race with heart, and build lasting friendships along the way.
Don’t forget to bring all of your swim equipment to practice, including your suit, goggles, cap, fins, kickboard, and a water bottle. Being prepared helps us get the most out of every practice.
We can’t wait to see everyone at the pool. Let’s make this season one to remember!
Go LIGHTNING!
"Don't obsess about the time, focus on the swim, and enjoy the race."
Coach A.
9/5/25: PRACTICE INFORMATION
Practice begins on Monday, Sept. 8th. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR SWIMMER HAS A YMCA MEMBERSHIP BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF PRACTICE!
The practice schedule is posted on the website. I also attached a copy for your convenience. Please note…the High School group will practice at City on Saturday from 7:00-9:00am with the Senior Team.
Coaches did their best to evaluate and place swimmers in the appropriate training group. They will continue to evaluate and move swimmers as needed.
Below is information about drop-off and pick-up at each site. Swimmers are strongly encouraged to come and go in their suit.
Lancaster City YMCA – 265 Harrisburg Ave. Lancaster
Drop off at front door, scan in, and enter the pool deck thru the family locker room. Pick-up in the lobby or at the side door. Swimmers under 12 are not permitted in the locker rooms without a parent. Swimmers are encouraged to go home in their suit, but they can change in the family locker room if they need to.
Parents may observe practice from the balcony. Please make sure you scan in or sign in at the Welcome Desk.
Advanced swimmers who arrive more than 10 minutes before their practice must wait in the balcony.
Lampeter-Strasburg YMCA - 800 Village Rd. Lancaster
Drop off at front door, scan in, enter the pool deck thru the family locker room. Pick-up at the front door. Swimmers under 12 are not permitted in the locker rooms without a parent. Swimmers are encouraged to go home in their suit, but they can change in the family locker room if they need to.
Parents may observe practice from the bleachers on deck. Please be respectful of the coaches who are trying to run a practice a few feet away. Make sure you scan in or sign-in at the Welcome Desk.
MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY (Pucillo) –105 Pucillo Dr. Millersville
Drop-off is at the glass doors of Pucillo. Parents are encouraged to walk younger children in because it’s dangerous to drop off on the hill. Parents are also expected to walk into the building to pick-up their swimmers.
Parents may watch practice from the bleachers on deck.
Parking is available in the lot next to the building. If that lot is full or closed for an athletic event, please use the parking lot/garage.

EXPLANATION OF MEETS
We do our best to schedule a variety of meets for all ages and abilities.
USA meets require registration with USA swimming. If you registered last season, you are still eligible thru December. Information about registering for the 2025-2026 season will be sent in a separate email.
YMCA meets are generally open to all swimmers unless they have qualifying times or age restrictions.
Invitationals and Championship Meets have a fee per event. This will be charged to the credit card on file.
Dual meets & Tri-Meets do not usually have a fee per event.
Please remember that swimmers ARE REQUIRED TO COMPETE IN 3 YMCA MEETS!
HOW TO SIGN-UP
Log into our website and click on the meet. You may commit to the entire meet, or you may commit by session.
Scroll down and choose events. If you commit to the meet and do not choose events, coaches will pick for you. Coaches also reserve the right to add or change events if we feel it is in the best interest of the swimmer.
Coaches will choose relays. We take the top 4, 8, 12, etc. depending on how many swimmers we have.
There is a section for parents to leave notes. It is always a good idea to follow-up with an email because I don’t always see the notes.
