Laps for Lightning 2025

Please join us for one of our biggest fundraisers of the season: Laps for Lightning!

🌟This year we’re adding a fun fall twist with relays, snacks, prizes, and plenty of team spirit! 🌟

Lightning families will ask friends and family to sponsor their swimmer(s) either with a flat donation or a “per lap” pledge. We are exploring an online platform to make collecting donations easier, but you are welcome to collect sponsorships in any way that works best for you. A sponsorship form is included below.

👉 Important reminder: Every swim family is required to collect at least $100 in donations for this event.

What is Laps for Lightning?

Laps for Lightning is our team’s annual fundraiser—a fun and meaningful way for swimmers and families to come together in support of our team! Each year, we use this event to raise vital funds that help cover our pool time at Millersville and other important team expenses that keep our program strong. Swimmers are encouraged to hop in the pool and swim laps with us on October 25th. Attendance is not required, however, each swim family is required to raise a minimum of $100 by gathering sponsorships from friends, family, and community members. It’s a fantastic opportunity to show team spirit, build community, and help keep our program strong!

What’s new this year?

We’re mixing things up! In the past, Laps for Lightning has taken place during the ExtraGive in November, but this year we’re kicking off the season with Lap for Lightning in October and collecting donations the day of OR during the ExtraGive. 

We’re turning up the fun and dialing down the laps. While each family is still asked to raise $100, the event will be filled with exciting activities like fun relays, music, food, and more. 

Also, new this year. You can bring your donations to the event on October 25, 2025 OR you can choose to donate online through the ExtraGive link on November 21, 2025. This allows each family to choose the best option for them while still offering an online platform to collect donations.

Will there be prizes?

Yes! We love recognizing and rewarding our swimmers throughout the event. In fact, we're always looking for prize donations to make things even more exciting.

If you own a small business or have access to items or gift cards you'd like to contribute, or would be interested in helping us gather prizes please email us at PAC4Lany@gmail.com.

In the past, we've given out:

• TYR swag
• Swim stickers
• $5–$10 gift cards to local businesses
• Coupons to local entertainment spots (bowling, laser tag, etc.)

What if we don’t raise $100?

If a swim family does not meet the $100 fundraising goal, a $100 charge will be added to your account through our Commit system (the same platform used for meet sign-ups and payments).

What if we raise more than $100?

First of all—thank you! Every dollar above and beyond the goal helps our team immensely.

This year, families who raise $200 or more will be entered into a special drawing to win a TYR swim bag with our team logo.

How do we collect donations and sponsorships?

Online Donations During ExtraGive: Donating online offers a quick and easy way for families and friends to donate to our swim team. The ExtraGive offers the YMCA and our swim team a convenient option to accept online donations, as opposed to other third party fundraising sites where a fee is required. To reach as many family and friends as possible we are encouraging Lightning families to collect donations now through November 21, 2015 and make donations through our ExtraGive link on November 21, 2025 www.extragive.org. Be sure they donate through the Lancaster YMCA Swim Team link so your swimmer receives credit for their donations and sponsorships! 

Some families voiced concern over required online giving, we hear your concerns and are offering the option to donate on the day of our Laps for Lightning event on October 25, 2025. We will only be accepting checks the day of Laps for Lightning to minimize confusion in logging and tracking these donations. All other donations will have to be submitted through ExtraGive on November 21st.

• Make checks payable to YMCA of the Roses
• Include LANCASTER YMCA SWIM TEAM in the memo line

All donations are tax-deductible, as the YMCA of the Roses is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
